Frustrated due to outdated/missing root certificates (edited, not any more, issue fixed!). – Bought this new QNAP TS-451D2 to replace my unsupported QNAP TS-269L NAS thinking it will address an issue with root certificates. Well, guess what? I’m having the same issue with the root certificates and the is no way to update it unless you sort of ‘hack’ the QNAP OS and manually copy it to the correct directory. Keep in mind if you do this and reboot the NAS the working certificate get erased and you will need to manually copy it again.

Been trying to do a DIY Home Surveillance system for years, in hours…done with QNAP and QVR! – As a sorta-geek who has been in the (computer) storage world for 2.5 decades, I’m impressed with QNAPs simple UIs and features you’d expect in higher end storage. I’ve struggled to build a home NVR and found the combo of QNAPs NAS and QVR Pro free software to be the solution. I easily connected my array of 720 and 4k cameras and utilized my existing POE switch. In minutes we were up and running. I also undersized my storage using 4TB drives and found it super elegant to upgrade to 14TB in a few clicks. Don’t hesitate if you are looking to integrate modern HW and software with existing IP cameras!

Received better item them anticipated – It was a toss up between buying this NAS or the Synology 220+. QNAP was running a promotion where these NAS where only $239 which is just about $100 cheaper than the MSRP.

Works great however warranty registration issues – Before I praise QNAP for my good experience, I will point out that the seller BecTech Global imported these QNAP’s from France. This means you are not eligible for the extended warranty if you purchase this in a different region (like in the USA). I opened a ticket with QNAP for more information on eligibility. Awaiting a response.

I’m mixed on this one. Definitely sound better on paper than actual performance. – Definitely not for the inexperience person who only use a computer to browse the web. Clunky and sluggish user interface with way too many menus to navigate to, just to do something basic.

Easy Setup If… – My 5 year old Qnap died. I bought this one to replace it. Since my 2 drives were ok, I plugged one in just in case it wanted to reinitialize. It didn’t. What it did was find all my data and accounts. All I had to do plug the other drive in and install a couple of apps. I was very happy!

software is outdated, device is loud – interface is very confusing, and nonlogical. setup of this device is truly adventure – looking for options which are hidden like treasure boxes is sometimes hit and miss game. Sometimes they are described in strange way, sometimes hidden under line of text without any mark that there it is something important. software per se is not working as expected, compared to synology which i have used earlier it is simply outdated. synchronizing files sometimes works, sometimes doesn’t. qumagie is a mess – no matter how much time you spend cataloging faces it will always mess it again. even the basic functionality like fan setup is not working properly. one star for backup/restore it works.
