Worked on a cruise – I’ll start off with this – if you aren’t reasonably technical, then this may not be for you. You need to understand networks and troubleshooting when things do not work. It’s the nature of the beast.

– The internal setup is not always easy to figure out when traveling from hotels to hotels, but once you have it figured out, it’s a solid router. However, what I received is Version 1 of the router. I was hoping that in 2018, I’d receive Version 3. So one star removed for this. There hasn’t been a firmware update for this version for years so in terms of being secure, I’m not too confident. It doesn’t have an internal battery like other travel routers, but the upside of this is an incredibly light device. It won’t add much if you’re already carrying a heavy laptop bag in your travels.

Does what it says on the tin. – It works as advertised. It has good features and a good web admin UI. The hardware and features seem a bit dated. A couple of things they might update next version. When plugged into a PC over USB it might show up as a network adapter, or perhaps as a wifi adapter, or as a mass storage device. I was surprised when plugging into a PC over USB it gives you nothing, not even a mass storage device to transfer files to it. When plugged into a phone or hotspot over USB that supports USB tethering and presents itself as an ethernet device it should be able to use that as a data connection. Not sure anyone is rocking a 3g/4g modem anymore. And the power plug should me USB C.

Works well, but I had mixed success using it to share wifi on a cruise ship – This little unit is really handy and works as advertised. I bought it to use on a cruise, but I’ve found it useful for one other task which is connecting a PC without wifi to my home network: The TP Link TL-WR902AC connects to the wifi, and an Ethernet cable runs between the TP Link and the PC. The TP link provides an IP address to the PC, and then acts as a wifi client on my wifi network. Most people aren’t going to need this, but I work on old PCs that usually have no wifi adapter in them.

For live sound mixing- it’s a lifesaver. – I’m an audio engineer based in Nashville. I’ve mixed artists from George Clinton to Russell Dickerson using this router in very crowded rooms and it has not let me down! The fact that it’s bus powered and can be powered from the console is a HUGE plus. Highly highly recommend. I rated four stars because the included Ethernet cable is awful and the power input was loose- nothing that a little tape didn’t solve 🙂
